TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As of today, state-run oil company Pertamina through its subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) has officially took total control of the Southeast Sumatra (SES) work area (WK) form its initial operator CNOOC SES Ltd.
“WK SES has a strategic value for domestic oil and gas industry which can further support the national production goal in order to achieve the country’s national energy resilience,” said Pertamina upstream director Dharmawan Samsu in a written statement Tempo received today.
The WK SES will be operated by PHE Offshore Southeast Sumatra (PHE OSES) acting as its new operator, which is marked by a transfer of management ceremony held at the Kepulauan Seribu that is one of vital locations in the WK SES offshore operations.
The WK SES is one of Indonesia’s largest producers of oil and gas where it saw production reach 31,120 barrels per day (bph) and 137.5 million mmscfd up to August of 2018.
The gas from the SES field is used to power PLN’s power plant in Cilegon unlike in previous operations where the oil produced from the area were exported entirely. From now on, PHE OSES will use the entire oil production from this site for domestic uses.
