TEMPO.CO, Solo - The 2018 Asian Para Games Committee (INAPGOC) will carry out the classification of athletes for four days long before the opening of the Asian Para Games. The aim is to create class equality for the athletes competing.
INAPGOC Classification Director, Christopher, said the process involved 91 classifiers from various countries. “Seven of them are from Indonesia,” he said in Solo, Wednesday, September 5.
The classification process takes place on October 2-5. “The classifiers will calculate the level of disability so that the match can be equal,” he said.
Even though it involves experienced classifiers, Christopher believes the results will not satisfy all parties. “In similar events, there got to be protests [that sprung up],” he said.
According to Christopher, the organizers still provide a mechanism for submitting objections to the results of the classification. “They are allowed to submit a protest, but it must be regulated so that the objections submitted really have a strong reason,” he said.
Christopher said the objection must be submitted by the leader of the contingent or the Chief de Mission (CdM). “Athletes or coaches cannot submit [protest],” he said. In addition, the protest party will be charged a fee of US$200 (around Rp2.9 million).
The protest must be submitted no later than 1.5 hours after the results of the classification are announced. The objection submitted through the special form will be handled by the classifiers carefully and professionally. “Handled by five panels,” he said.
The objections in disabled sports are often encountered. Because people usually only pay attention to the body functions that are visible in plain view. In fact, the 2018 Asian Para Games classifiers will also consider the results of functional tests that are sometimes not visible.
