TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ministry of Youth and Sports targets Indonesia to rank the top five in the 2018 Asian Para Games.

“In fact, Pak Jokowi expected Indonesia could rank the top seven. But we view that Indonesia is able to be in top five; not only in top seven,” said the ministry's secretary Gatot S Dewa Broto in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 4.

According to Gatot, the increase in target refers to Indonesia's success to rank in the ninth position at the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea.

“We have calculated this and set our strategies as part of our sports intelligence, just like we did in the Asian Games,” he said.

Gatot stated that the strategy includes sports that would be favored by Indonesia in the 2018 Asian Para Games.

The 2018 Asian Para Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from October 6-13 and will be participated by 41 countries with 2,800 athletes, 1,800 officials and 500 media, both domestic and abroad.

There are 18 sports to compete at the 2018 Asian Para Games, namely basketball, volleyball, fencing, table tennis, swimming, shooting, judo, cycling, chess, weightlifting, bowling, goalball, badminton, running, archery, boccia, handball, and tennis.
