Garuda Indonesia Drops Jakarta-London-Jakarta Direct Flight

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Indonesia President Director Pahala Mansyuri revealed the reason behind the state airliner`s decision to drop its direct flight route from Jakarta to London as of October 28.
According to Pahala, the main driving force for the route’s closure is pinned down to the income that had not met with the company’s expectations considering that Garuda is limited to fill 75 percent of its Boeing 777-300 ER capacity for a direct London flight.
“One of the reasons we dropped the route is the difficulty to gain profit with the existence of a limited passenger quota,” said Pahala on Thursday, August 30.
However, he explained that Garuda Indonesia will re-open its Heathrow-Amsterdam-Jakarta flight schedule that will be available six times a week.
The Jakarta – London direct flight was first introduced in 2014 and had always been filled 75 percent of its total capacity in average, which is said to be caused by the passenger restriction rule.
Garuda Indonesia will replace the Jakarta-London route with other international routes. The airliner has eyed on establishing flight routes to Paris, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh.
