Govt Ensures LRT Jakarta is Friendly for People with Disabilities

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation Ministry ensures that Jakarta mass transport Light Rail Transit (LRT) is friendly and feasible for people with disabilities.
“We want this modern transportation facility can be enjoyed by all residents, without exception, including the passengers with disabilities,” said Director General of Railways at the Transportation Ministry, Zulfikri, Thursday, August 30.
Zulfikri said that the facilities for passengers with disabilities include escalators, special elevators, ramps, surveillance cameras or CCTV, medical rooms, guiding blocks to guide the blind passengers, toilets for disabled people, and priority seats on the platform and on the train.
In addition, there will be service officers at the station who will help people with disabilities to get on and get off the train.
Referring to the data of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), the number of people with disabilities in Indonesia is estimated at 15 percent of the total population, which is around 36 million people.
Whereas in Jakarta, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2015, the number of people with disabilities reached 6,003 people.
“This is our concern. Therefore, the provision of facilities for people with disabilities will be carried out in all LRT stations,” he said.
