TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to all people using marine service to heed the high waves in the Indian Ocean, south of Central Java and Yogyakarta predicted at 6-meter height.
“The high tide occurs due to low-pressure patterns in Australia at 1,021 millibars meet Jedi tropical cyclone in the Pacific Ocean, northeast the Philippines at a strength of 1,000 millibars,” said BMKG Cilacap Meteorology Station head Teguh Wardoyo today, August 29 in Cilacap, Central Java.
Teguh explained the interaction between high pressure and tropical cyclone would trigger the increase in wind speed amounted to 46 kilometers per hour in the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean, west of Australia.
According to Teguh, the hike in wind speed would rise the sea tide in the Andaman Sea, the west waters of Enggano Island until west of Lampung province; south waters of Java Island until East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province; and the Indian Ocean, west of Bengkulu province until NTT province.
“Thus, we issue an early warning on the high wave which valid starting Wednesday, August 27 at 7 AM until Saturday, September 1, at 7 AM. The early warning will be updated should there is further development,” he added.
Based on the early warning issued by BMKG, Teguh said, the high waves in south waters of Cilacap, Kebumen, Purworejo, and Yogyakarta was estimated to reach 2.5 to 4 meters, while in the Indian Ocean, south of Cilacap until the Indian Ocean south Yogyakarta the tide would rise 4 to 6 meters.
