Yogyakarta Police Probe 3 Officers Riding Dead Whale Shark

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Yogyakarta Police probed three police officers who rode on the back of a stranded dead leopard whale shark at Parangkusumo Beach, Bantul on Monday, August 27 after its photograph went viral on social media.
“The three officers were already examined by Provost (Military Police),” said Yogyakarta Police spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Yulianto today, August 28.
The police lamented such action of the three officers.
On Monday, August 27, the local residents were stunned by a dead leopard whale shark at Parangkusumo Beach, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The whale shark was estimated at age 2 months with a length of around 4 meters and weighed over 1 tons.
The three police officers rode on the back of the dead endangered animal and took a photo of which later went viral on social media and stirred harsh criticisms from the netizens. The police were currently investigating the violation committed by its personnel.
“We are still deciding which punishment worth their action,” said Yuli, adding that the three officers regretted their behavior.
The police, along with related institution, were currently conducting an autopsy by taking a blood sample of the whale shark. The police planned to bury the baby shark.
