TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Tour Guides Association (HPI) member, Margareth Florencia Stevani said that West Nusa Tenggara’s (NTB) Beleke handwoven rattan bags have been popular among tourists visiting for the Asian Games 2018.
“Today I accompanied Qatar and Greece’s basketball coach in shopping for the Lombok-made bag,” said Margareth to Tempo at the Indonesia Wow Gallery at the Smesco building
in South Jakarta on Sunday, August 26.
She revealed that this hand-woven type of bag is currently popular overseas since both coaches were initially unaware of such product and were requested by their family members back at home to buy them as souvenirs.
Margareth claims that a number of tourists visiting Indonesia for the 2018 Asian Games mostly ask for guidance to the Smesco building for the affordability of products sold there, compared to Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia.
The rattan bags’ prices range from Rp200,000 up to Rp400,000 according to its sizes and shapes. The Beleke rattan bag, which was made popular last year by several influential travelers are available at the Nusantara souvenir section at Smesco with various shapes and colors.
