TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the city administration will hold the ceremony of 73rd Indonesian independence day on Friday morning, August 17, 2018.
“I hope all government officials can go home early to enliven the August 17 activity in their neighborhoods," said Anies after attending the commemoration parade to celebrate Indonesia's independence at the Joeang Museum Building in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 16, 2018.
Anies said that the ceremony will be held at the City Hall starting from 07:30 AM. The city administration, he added, will not organize an exclusive celebration event.
nies considered the celebration of independence as a chance to achieve all dreams and not only about physical development, "but also the soul which can be built individually. Such form of 'independence' must be underlined."
Asked about the commemoration to the independence, Anies said that it is not merely a ritual ceremony, but instead, a remembrance about the struggle during the independence period that was hard and full of consequences.“
"I also tell the young people that they must understand the history, but more importantly, the new generations can make a history," said Anies ahead of the celebration of the 73rd Indonesian Independence Day on Friday, August 17, 2018.
