Jokowi Pledges to Raise Civil Servant Salary

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that the government will raise the basic salary and basic pension for civil state apparatus (ASN), including civil servants (PNS) and retiree by 5 percent on average in 2019.

"The improvement on quality and bureaucratic motivation will be continuously established thus state apparatus will be more professional, clear [from graft], and prosperous," said the President regarding the 2019 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) during the plenary meeting at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday, August 16, 2018.

In addition to increasing the basic salary and basic pension, the government would further continue the payroll policy that was carried out in 2018.

Jokowi said that the government will accelerate to establish the Reformation in 86 ministries-institutions to provide better, quicker, and transparent public services by utilizing the electronic-based government system.

In the past few years, numerous efforts had been done to improve the bureaucratic performance through e-system such as e-procurement, One Data and OneMap as well as by strengthening bureaucratic reform and improving quality of public services, Public Service Mall.

The successfully increases Indonesia's Government Effectiveness Index to 86 in 2016 from previously ranked 103 in 2015.

President Jokowi gave his speeches in the annual meeting of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) today, August 16, 2018. Attended the meeting were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, state officials, Cabinet ministers, representatives of neighboring countries, former president Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie and Megawati Sukarnoputri, as well as former vice president Try Sutrisno and Boediono.
