Four Airports Ready to Welcome Asian Games Delegation, AP II Says

TEMPO.CO, Palembang - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) had set four airports to welcome 2018 Asian Games athletes, officials, and journalists in Jakarta and Palembang. The airports are Soekarno-Hatta in Tangerang, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin or SMB II in Palembang, Halim Perdana Kusumah in Jakarta, and Hussein Sastranegara in Bandung.
"At SMB II, we provide additional parking stand up to 14 units, " said AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin on Thursday, August 16, 2018.
In SMB II airport, the athletes and delegations could utilize Light Rail Transit or LRT, taxi, and special bus to the athletes' dorm at Jakabaring Sports City (JSC).
Awaluddin said as many as 21 flights had arrived today in SMB II airport carrying Asian Games athletes and organizing committees or the Inasgoc. Awaluddin expected the peak of athletes and officials arrival will start today until the opening ceremony on Saturday, August 18, 2018.
In an attempt to handle the increasing number of arrivals, Awaluddin said that he will deploy more officers. "Even after the opening ceremony, the number of arrivals will increase," Awaluddin added.
Meanwhile, AP II General Manager of SMB II Airport Bayuh Iswantoro, said that the increasin number of arrivals of Asian Games athletes and delegations have started since August 10, 2018. In normal days, the number reached 12,000 passengers, while ahead of the Asian biggest sporting event, it rose up to 13,000 to 14,000 passengers.
