TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Through his personal Facebook account, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan exhibited an installation art by Joko Dwi Avianto made out of bamboos at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout in Central Jakarta.
The installation art that comprise of thousands of bamboo poles was installed to welcome the upcoming 2018 Asian Games.
“These are Indonesia’s bamboos, planted in villages, maintained and harvested by our farmers, sold by micro traders and is now presented on top of one of the country’s most expensive land area,” Anies Baswedan wrote in his Facebook post today.
Anies Baswedan said that the subdued, simple, yet complex installation art is knowingly placed there to send a message that there are still traces of the traditional side despite being surrounded by tall buildings in the vicinity of the HI roundabout.
“It’s a message of being sturdy yet flexible, firm, small but large also, thousands yet still united, one piece by not scattered. That is us, our beloved Indonesia; 262 million people comprised of 400 ethnic groups, and speaks 700 languages,” said the Jakarta Governor.
Joko Dwi Avianto is an artist of installation art that utilizes bamboos in each of his art works. At the end of 2015, Joko exhibited an installation art comprised of 1,500 bamboos in front of Frankfurter Kunstverein, Germany, during the 2015 Frankfurt Book fair.
