Govt: Renovation after Lombok Earthquake Begins This Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said his office would immediately accelerate the restoration of damage caused by the Lombok earthquake.

“We will begin the repair this week,” Basuki said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 15.

Basuki explained that his ministry immediately followed up the instruction from President Jokowi to handle the emergency response properly, so the recovery process could be carried out quickly.

Basuki revealed that renovation of public facilities such as schools, mosques, Tanjung Market and Tanjung Hospital will be set this week. "Hopefully, this will recover the life and reduce the trauma of the people in Lombok," he said.

The Central Government allocated a Rp50 million for one family head whose house was damaged following the Lombok earthquake. The distribution is done gradually starting on Tuesday, August 14.
