TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) urged the regional government to socialize the construction of quake-proof houses for the community following the Lombok earthquake.
“The socialization on how to build houses [which are resistant to the earthquake] is a must,” said PVMBG’s earthquake mitigation unit head Sri Hidayati in Bandung, Monday, August 13.
The community should pay attention to the building construction. “It doesn’t have to be a luxurious house yet simple and based on the standard.”
According to Sri, the cracks and vertical deformation were proofs of the fault exists and that the community should concern should they rebuild houses since the same damage would likely occur at the same spot.

PVMBG also suggested the regional government revise the spatial and territory planning prior to the development of the housing complex in the region.
The emergency team had followed the signs of cracks and vertical deformations from the west beach of North Lombok and East Lombok. “Not all [cracks] emerge in the land surface. We strive to scan it,” she added.
The team had also drafted the map of the tremor intensity due to Lombok earthquake. The most powerful intensity at MMI VIII level occurred at Kayangan Village. “This village suffers the most severe damage,” Sri said.
