TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) is currently in its final preparation to host the 2018 Asian Games opening ceremony.
“The stage arrangement is currently 90 percent completed,” said INASGOC deputy II for games administration Francis Wanandi on Monday, August 13.
The stage itself is set to appear as a replica of a mountain. During Tempo’s visit to the SUGBK, workers were seen preparing the replica and watering the plants that are set to garnish the stage.
“It is the Nusantara concept where Indonesia is a country full of mountains. The plants and trees are authentic Asian,” said Francis.

Francis said the stage would have many surprises, which is why Tempo was prohibited from taking pictures while strolling around the area.
“[Of course] there should be an element of surprise,” said Francis.
The 2018 Asian Games ceremony is scheduled to be held on August 18, at a stage measuring 1,350 squaremeters, packed with 12,775 plants and flowed with 140,000 liters of water that will fill a part of the stage, resembling a river.
