TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 12,000 volunteers will take to the streets for a full city cleanup in Bandung on August 11-12 to welcome the upcoming Asian Games and Indonesia’s Independence Day.

“We actually expected 1,000 people registering. But the latest information suggests that there are already 2,000 people registering,” said Siska, the chairman of the Forum Rembug Peduli Bandung Sehat (Healthy Bandung Care Discussion Forum) on Thursday, August 9.

The clean Bandung movement program, which is initiated by the Bandung city administration, had opened its online registration through s.id/bbrsbdg for the past several days and is closed today. Through this online registration process, 9,000 volunteers from 30 districts in Bandung city are set to clean the city together.

“That number excludes the members of the public works agency, the city’s sanitation operator PD Kebersihan, the disaster management agency, the Indonesian Armed Forces and the police. We estimate that there will be more than 12,000 volunteers,” said Siska.

The volunteers will be in charge of cleaning the city’s infrastructure such as sewers, sidewalks, repainting multiple electrical poles, replacing the city’s plants, and maintaining the city’s trees. On August 11, the program will focus centrally on the city of Bandung, followed by the city's landmarks on August 12.
