TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hari Nugraha Nurjaman, the head of the Indonesian Association of Precast and Prestressed Engineers (IAPPI), is set to offer a speed-recovery concept for areas in Lombok that are affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit the region on Sunday, August 5.

“The speed recovery concept is basically reconstructing people’s houses with high performance prefabricated components that can withstand earthquakes,” Hari said on Friday, August 10.

According to Hari, the use of high-performance prefabricated components means that the building will still be usable after a strong earthquake but with economical initial investment. Hari met with the Public Works and Public Housing Directorate General of construction management in a forum at Denpasar on Thursday.

“This technology can be produced by precast facilities that have grown across Indonesia, it can be delivered to the field and is easily installed with relatively simple tools,” said Hari.

He found that the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) was the agency that handled the housing demands for Lombok’s areas that were affected by the quake. “We have communicated with the BNPB and we plan to hold a meeting with them Tuesday next week at 14:00,” said Hari.

Hari said that this high-performance structure he proposed was necessary as it served as a safety guarantee for home owners in Lombok and to counter the victim’s trauma on the condition of their houses prior to the quake.
