Jokowi`s Work Results for Past 4 Years Evident, Not Fictions

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Incumbent president-cum-presidential candidate  Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has said that what the government has done is evident throughout the past four years, and not fiction.

“What [the government] has worked on for the last four years is evident and not a fiction. This is the foundation that we have built and it needs to be continued,” said Jokowi on August 10, in front of his supporters at Gedung Joang 45 before departing to the General Election Commission (KPU) to register himself and his running mate. 

Jokowi said that the government sought to continue safeguarding the country’s unity and richness of its natural resources, which must be used for Indonesia’s prosperity.

One of the examples of the government’s work results, he said, is the take-over of the Rokan Block from a Japanese and French company, the 100 percent future take-over of the Mahakam Block from Chevron Pacific Indonesia, and the divestment of Freeport Indonesia that made media headlines for the past few months.

The head of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), Hariyadi Sukamdani, viewed the president’s decision to tap Ma’aruf Amin as his running mate in the 2019 election was Jokowi’s attempt to suppress issues of identity politics, which poses a threat towards Indonesia’s unity.

“I can truly understand his decision,” said Hariyadi.

Hariyadi added that Jokowi's chance to once again spearhead the nation was the latter's last chance to optimize his skills, and that Ma’aruf Amin would be tasked to unite the nation as an ulema.
