TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue and several infrastructures in Bali on September 22, ahead of IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said the project of GWK statue has reached 99 percent completion. “The construction project of GWK statue spends nearly 28 years, now we are waiting for the inauguration by President on September 22,” said Luhut on Wednesday, August 8.
All 735 sculpture modules had been installed by June 2018. A Hindus ritual Melaspas aimed at cleansing and purifying the completed building was held on August 8.
Aside from the Bali’s largest statue, several projects to support the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting were the apron expansion of Ngurah Rai Airport which would able to accommodate 1.2 million passengers, the Suwung sanitary landfill (TPA) project, as well as the Ngurah Rai Underpass and Cruise Terminal projects in Benoa Port.
