Prabowo Coalition to Finalize VP Candidate Name Tonight

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party secretary-general Ahmad Muzani said his party was currently finalizing the name of the vice presidential candidate with the four coalition parties supporting Prabowo Subianto in the 2019 election.

“The last day to register the name of presidential and vice presidential candidate is August 10, so the final discussion is still afoot. We intensively hold talks with coalition parties’ chair all day today,” said Muzani at Prabowo’s residence, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 8.

The head of the coalition party, he added, would intensively conduct meetings and discussions today in a bid to decide one candidate to accompany Prabowo Subianto. The announcement would likely take place on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, August 9, once a decision has been made.

According to Muzani, Prabowo Subianto has met Democrat Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY on Tuesday, August 7, to talk on Prabowo’s running mate. “SBY let Prabowo as a presidential candidate to decide his VP candidate and the Democrat party will support it,” he added.
