TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States on Monday, August 6, asked the World Trade Organization (WTO) to impose sanction to Indonesia following its winning after a trade dispute. The US business lost some the US $350 million, equal to Rp5 billion.
As quoted from Reuters, today, August 7, the U.S. and New Zealand win the appeal of WTO in 2017 over Indonesia’s restrictions on imports of food and animal products. Indonesia then challenged the appeal but lost it.
The U.S. said Indonesia did not follow the previous ruling thus Washington strived to impose an annual sanction for the loss compensation over its interest.
“Based on a preliminary analysis of available data for certain products, this level is provisionally estimated at up to approximately $350 million for 2017,” the US demanded WTO.
Indonesia refuted all claims as well as potential sanction planned by the US. Meanwhile, no similar request of New Zealand sent to WTO thus far, following the issuance of the import restriction of animal product which it suffered loss up to NZ$1 billion or equal to the US $673 million.
