Jokowi Orders Wiranto to Lead Disaster Management of Lombok Quake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he has ordered Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto to coordinate all related parties in mitigating the impacts of Lombok earthquake. The 7 magnitude earthquake struck Lombok and neighboring areas on Sunday, August 5 and claimed 82 lives.
“So the disaster management will be done quickly, to list the death toll and recover the injured victims, including distributing the logistics and others,” said the president in Padepokan Pencak Silat, TMII, Jakarta, Monday, August 6.

Aside from that, Jokowi expected domestic and foreign tourists in Lombok would get the best treatment and no delayed flight would happen after the tremor.
“The logistics [distribution] has started this early morning and last night and doctors are mobilized there,” he added.

Jokowi went on to say the government was currently recording the casualties in the location in a bid to hand out the compensation. During the previous earthquake, Jokowi had distributed Rp50 million for the victims.
“We will set [the number] after we see the data from the field. Yes, we will provide help but the number is not set yet,” said President Jokowi today, August 6, regarding the Lombok earthquake.
