Indonesia wish to Establish Mutual Partnership with the US

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and the United States have agreed to develop a mutual partnership. The relationship between Indonesia and the United States has developed to a level of strategic partnership, and Indonesia is willing to improve its trade relationship with the United States.

"Indonesia, as a country with the largest number of Muslim majority in the world, and the third largest democratic country in the world has a strategic position for the United States. Indonesia wanted to develop a mutual relationship with the United States," said Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi after conducting a bilateral meeting with the United States Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo on Saturday, August 4, 2018.

The United States is the fourth largest trade partner and the sixth largest investor for Indonesia.

In relation to Indonesia’s interest in improving trade partnership with the United States, back on July 2018, Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita has conducted a meeting with the United States Trade Ministry.

In the Ministerial Meeting, Indonesia was focusing on two issues: strengthening trade and investment with the United States, and to resolve issues related to trade barriers.

"We would like to establish a strong and mutually beneficial relationship," Minister Retno stated.
