TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo stated that many Indonesians are lazy to walk.
"I read a news report saying that our society does not like to walk long distances. They are lazy enough to walk close distances, let alone long ones," said President Jokowi during the Jalan Terus Indonesia (Indonesia Keep on Walking) program launching event at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Saturday, August 4, 2018.
Jokowi argued that people nowadays prefer to park their vehicle closer to a building's entrance door, such as the participants of the launching event.
During the event, the President also shared his habit of walking during work visits. Jokowi added that he also jogs every morning. With the Indonesia Keep on Walking program, Jokowi hoped that Indonesians can be healthier and can take part in promoting the 2018 Asian Games.
Indonesia Keep on Walking program initiator and Combiphar President Director Michael Wanandi, said that the program is based on a research stating that Indonesia ranked 46th and last in terms of walking society with an average of 3,600 steps every day.
