TEMPO.COKupang - The fire blazed savannah forest in Gili Lawa, Komodo National Park, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, on late Wednesday, August 1.

“The incident occurs in Gili Lawa,” said the Komodo National Park operator head Budi Kurniawan, as quoted from Antara, Friday, August 3.

Budi received the report from a tour guide leader at around 18:15 local times. His staffers then immediately mobilized officers from Res Loh Sebita and Res Padar to put down the blaze.

The fire brigade of Komodo National Park from Labuan Bajo also rushed to the location at around 22:00 local times. “We ask the tour guide to record last visitors come from the hill where the fire breaks out and restrain them,” Budi said.

The fire was finally extinguished on Thursday, August 2, at 03:15 local times. Budi has not yet confirmed the range area of the savannah that was burned.

West Manggarai Resort Police, Budi added, was currently investigating the cause of the fire. The suspect was allegedly a passenger of a ship that docked in the site.

East Nusa Tenggara Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Jules Abraham Abast said the investigation on the fire incident in Gili Lawa, Komodo National Park was still afoot and that the cause was not yet confirmed.
