New Tool in Facebook, Instagram Helps Users Manage Time On It

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facebook and Instagram recently introduced a new tool that enables its users to control the duration of using the apps. It is aimed at which is meant to establish a positive use among users and to prevent social media addiction.
The tool called activity dashboard was announced by Instagram product management director Ameet Ranadive and Facebook’s director of research David Ginsberg in Facebook’s official blog on Wednesday, August 1.
According to official reports, the activity dashboard was developed is in collaboration with experts in the field of mental health and academics.
The feature is able to notify its users when they exceed the time limit that they have set. However, the notification is not binding and will let users continue surfing their social media feed if users choose to do so.
“It’s our responsibility to talk openly about how time online impacts people, and we take that responsibility seriously,” Ginsberg and Ranadive said in the post.
The new tool will be available worldwide in the next couple of weeks, however, The Verge reported that there are at least one percent of Facebook and Instagram users that are already able to utilize the new dashboard.
