TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakpro President Director Dwi Wahyu Daryoto announced that the Kelapa Gading - Velodrome light rapid transit (LRT), which will be operable in August 10, will not exclusively prioritize the 2018 Asian Games athletes but also the general public.
“Its use is for the people. As for the athletes, it will depend on the conditions, but the general public can certainly [use the LRT’s service],” said Dwi Wahyu Daryoto on Tuesday, July 31.
This situation is a stark contrast to the initial goal of the LRT Jakarta phase I construction considering that it was designed as to be a mode of transport to support the 2018 Asian Games.
The 5.8 kilometer-long transportation project costs one trillion rupiah per kilometer or Rp6.8 trillion in total.
According to Dwi, the construction of the Jakarta LRT is currently 95 percent complete and is just waiting to undergo several tests such as a static test, dynamic test, and a certification by the Indonesian Transportation Ministry.
