TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti called on the authorities to tighten up attempts in eradicating fishery theft throughout Indonesia`s maritime area.
“I expect it to be conducted more intensively,” said Minister Susi Pudjiastuti in a press conference today, July 31.
Susi explained that the fishing season has begun throughout numerous areas, calling for an improved coordination with every element that is involved.
Previously, the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Ministry claims it has sunk hundreds of illegal fishing boats as a deterrent. “We have blown up 363 ships,” said Minister Susi in an event called 'the movement for a healthier Indonesian maritime world' that was held in Jakarta on Sunday, July 15.
Susi Pudjiastuti hopes that the more illegal fishing boats that are detonated, illegal fishers would not dare sail over Indonesian waters.
The Ministry also said that it has elevated its coordination with numerous related institutions to maintain a better partnership between agencies. Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said it is the main factor that affects Indonesia’s success in eradicating illegal fishing.
