TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo was said to have a closed meeting with several leaders of party coalition in Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Saturday, July 28. Attending the meeting were chairmen of the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), the Justice and Unity Party (PKPI), and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).
Perindo Party secretary-general Ahmad Rofiq confirmed that his party leader Hary Tanoesoedibjo or Hary Tanoe had talks with Jokowi. However, he claimed to have not know the other parties’ leader. “Yes, but I don’t know which other parties [join the meeting],” said Rofiq in a phone interview with Tempo today, July 28.
PKPI secretary-general Verry Surya Hendrawan, meanwhile, reluctant to give information related to the meeting between its party chair and Jokowi. “Please ask for confirmation directly to the palace. It will hopefully be announced later,” he said.
Tempo strived to gain confirmation to PSI chair Grace Natalie through a text message but to no avail.
Previously, Jokowi had a session with the coalition party leaders joined in Bogor Presidential Palace, Monday, July 23. The six figures were the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Functional Group (Golkar) Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto, the National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, the United Development Party (PPP) chairman Muhammad Romahurmuziy, The People Conscience Party (Hanura) Chairman Oesman Sapta Odang, and the National Democrat Party (Nasdem) Surya Paloh.
The party coalition agreed to support President Jokowi and let him determine the registration day of the presidential candidate around August 4-10, 2018.
