Corruption Ex-convicts Register to Run for Legislative Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) said that 199 ex-convicts of corruption cases had signed to run for the legislative elections at the provincial and regional level. Most of them are from Golkar and Gerindra.
These ex-convicts registered to run as lawmakers in 11 provinces, 93 regencies, and 12 cities, although political parties have signed an integrity pact not to register cadres who have been convicted as corruptors.

KPU commissioner Hasyim Asyari said on Thursday that he will announce which parties that still register their former convict cadres, and stressed that their registration will be annulled.
From Gerindra Party, 27 cadres who registered to run in the elections are former corrupt convicts. Meanwhile, 25 of Golkar cadres registered have also been implicated in corruption cases.
Other parties that have registered ex-corrupt convicts are PKB (eight cadres), Berkarya Party (16 cadres), PAN (12 cadres), Democrat (12), PBB (11 cadres), PKS (five), PPP (seven), NasDem Party (16), PDIP (13 cadres), Hanura Party (15), Garuda Party (six), Perindo Party (12), and PKPI (seven cadres).
