Online Ojek Drivers Determine to Stage Rally during Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The community of online motorcycle taxi or online ojek driver joined in Gerakan Aksi Roda Dua (Garda) determined to stage a massive rally during the opening ceremony of 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on August 18, said the community presidium head, Danny Stephanus.
“We will further consolidate our people. We’ll still hold a rally whatever the risk,” Danny said on Wednesday, July 25.
According to Danny, the demonstration was aimed to demand the tariff increase and the government recognition of the presence of online ojek. Garda was established to prepare the August 18 protest. its members were Gojek and Grab drivers throughout Jabodetabek and Palembang.

Danny asserted the planned rally would not be halted so long their demands were not fulfilled. “No changes, we will still do it on Asian Games opening ceremony,” he added. “[Our] friends continuously disseminate the rally to their community, the reasons we establish it.”
Danny, during his third year being an online ojek driver, mentioned that he had felt multiple tariff changes. When he registered, the rate was Rp4,000 per kilometer but now turned to Rp1,500 per kilometer. “We don’t ask for the state or company's money. We demand the implementation of the previous tariff,” he said.
