TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 5-year old boy who was kidnapped from his neighborhood in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, was forced to beg for money by his kidnapper. The victim was found scrounging in Pariaman, West Sumatra.

According to Tanah Abang police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Lukman, the kidnapper, Herman (37), made the victim scrounge in every city they stopped in en route from Jakarta to Sumatra.

The kidnapper is a street food peddler who works in front of the Tanah Bang Train Station.

"The victim was living with his grandmother," Lukman said on Sunday, July 22.

The boy was kidnapped near his home in Kebon Kacang, Tanah Abang, on July 11. He was taken by the suspect by train to Rangkas Bitung, Banten, from which they traveled to Merak to take a ship to Bakauheni.

"From then they took a bus to Rajabasa and then Pariaman," Lukman said, adding that whenever they had to stop in a city, Herman made the victim beg for money—carrying a red bucket.

The police managed to rescue the victim and capture the suspect thanks to a report by a witness who suspected how Herman was treating the child.
