TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) Tulus Abadi assess that Jakarta is not feasible as the location of the 2018 Asian Games. The consideration is the readiness of its traffic that still packed with private vehicles.
“The government is too confident to make Jakarta as the venue of the Asian Games without backing up its traffic impact analysis,” Tulus said on Saturday, July 21.
According to him, the government needs to provide public transportation so that motorists are willing to switch to using public transportation.
“But it’s hard, MRT (mass rapid transit) and LRT (light rail transit) have failed, because it can not be operated,” Tulus said.
Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) together with several related agencies have prepared two traffic schemes to reduce the volume of private vehicles during the Asian Games event.
The schemes are the extension of odd-even policy in eight arterial roads and the closure of dozens of inner-city toll roads. The odd-even policy trial runs from July 2 to 31, for 15 hours non-stop.
The limitation of through the odd-even policy has been applied in Jalan Sudirman, M.H. Thamrin, and part of Jalan Gatot Subroto. Later, Jakarta Transportation Agency announced the reduction of odd-even roads on Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah, South Jakarta and Jalan Benyamin Sueb, Central Jakarta.
As a result, the odd-even policy during the 2018 Asian Games applies only on Jalan Ciputat-Pondok Indah Mall and the Jalan Angkasa Roundabout-Kupingan Ancol.
