TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Greater Jakarta Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) said there is a need for traffic engineering in Jakarta`s toll roads to anticipate motorists moving to toll roads due to the odd-even system. If there is no arrangement, the 2018 Asian Games athletes` journey from Wisma Atlet Kemayoran to the locations of the matches would be disrupted.
"So we need to engineer the traffic," BPTJ chief Bambang Prihartono said on Thursday, July 19.
Bambang said that some toll gates would be permanently closed for a certain period of time. Meanwhile, other toll gates will be closed depending on traffic situations—to adjust to the travel time of athletes and police discretion.

The Toll Road Regulatory Agency chief Herry Trisaputra Zuna supports BPTJ's proposal for the success of the 2018 Asian Games—especially considering Jakarta's crowded toll roads.
"If it is not regulated [traffic-engineered], it would not work," he said.
Forty toll gates in Jakarta to be closed permanently and periodically would be divided into several categories. Some gates would be closed from 6:00 to 17:00 daily, including Ancol Barat, Tanjung Duren, Slipi 2, Meruya Selatan, Joglo 1, Ciledug 3, and Taman Mini.
There are also gates that would be closed from 12:00 to 21:00 daily, including Slipi 1, Jelambar 1, Angke 1, Jembatan Tiga 2, Gedong Panjang 2, Sunter, Kebon Nanas, and Jatinegara.
Meanwhile, some gates would be closed periodically at undecided times. They include Gedong Panjang 1, Jelambar 2, Pejompongan, Tanjung Priok 1, Tanjung Priok 2, and Cempaka Putih.
