Trade Ministry: 7 Design Products to Compete at Japan's G-Mark

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 26 products are listed in Good Design Indonesia initiated by the Trade Ministry. Of the 26 products, the design of Terios, a car model released by vehicle manufacturer PT Astra Daihatsu Motor was named as Good Design Indonesia of The Year.
“The product is a work of designer Mark Widjaja,” said Dino Fabriant, the head of the judges and the member of the Association of Indonesian Industrial Product Designer, during the award ceremony of the 2018 GDI at the Trade Ministry in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, July 18. Six other products were named as Good Design Indonesia of The Best, and 18 others were named as Good Design Indonesia.
Good Design Indonesia (GDI) is an adaptation of G-Mark’s design product selection organized in Japan. GDI was a recognition for Indonesian best designs to introduce the products worldwide. This is the second year of the event held by the Trade Ministry’s Directorate General of National Export Development.
GDI is aimed at developing design-based products in the market. Winners of Good Design Indonesia are expected to promote the products in the international market.
Ari Satria, Director of Export Development at the Trade Ministry, said the selection process was started in January 2018. Of 253 products registered to the event, 26 were selected. The categories are Home Decor and Furniture, Graphics and Packaging, Household and Office, Transportation, Accessories and Lifestyle, and Electronics.
The seven winners of Good Design Indonesia will compete with other design products from other countries at G-Mark that will be held in Tokyo in September-October this year.
The six products listed as Good Design Indonesia of The Best are the long chair by Panjai Rope Longue Chair from PT. Kriya Selaras International, home decor Dashdot from PT. Mujur Kurnia Ampuh, News Mozaic Handwoven Wallcovering from PT. Retota Retail Indonesia, Arang Gambar (Charcoal) from Lagi-Lagi, Jengki Chair from Santai Furniture, and necklace jewelry by Riana Meilia.
