TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla welcomed Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Teo Chee Hean, to the Vice-Presidential Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 18.
Jusuf Kalla said they were discussing a partnership between Indonesia and Singapore in several sectors. “[We have] good ties in economy, social, and trade sectors so far,” he said.

Mr. Hean revealed that the meeting ran smoothly. According to Mr. Hean, the Singaporean government planned to step up the relationship with Indonesia in other sectors such as security and defense, in addition to the economy.
Both countries had started building economic ties in various fileds, including industry and digital. Both countries are also considering building bilateral ties in the tourism sector.

Mr. Hean said Singapore and Indonesia also had worked side by side in the education sector. “We are also setting up cooperation in the security sector. Hopefully, this partnership lead to cooperation in the field of defense,” he added.
According to Mr. Hean, further talks between Indonesian and Singaporean leaders in light of the partnership have been scheduled in October 2018.
