TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that many overloaded and oversized trucks are still the main causes of damaged roads.
“The roads are damaged due to frequent overloaded and oversized vehicles passing by. The government must bear the cost of road repair up to Rp43 trillion per year, quite a considerable amount,” said Budi Karya in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 17.
Therefore, the government will take firm action to reduce road damage and accident rate.
Minister Budi said the prohibition is not a new provision, but he admitted that the provision still has a lot of leniencies, so far.
As a result, the state suffered losses of around Rp43 trillion per year. Though the government only budgeted Rp26 trillion per year.
Minister Budi Karya said the impact is the vehicles could only reach 40 kilometers per hour instead of the original 60-70 kilometers per hour.
