TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of Jakarta Cipta Karya Agency, Benny Agus Candra, explained the city administration had synergized with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to keep an eye on violations related to wells infiltration, wastewater management and groundwater at buildings in Jakarta.
“We plan to hold coordination and preventive supervision on groundwater issues. KPK can later monitor this integrated program,” Benny told reporters at the City Hall, Thursday, July 12.
Earlier, Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno planned to send the second warning letters (SP2) to several building managements located along Jl. Sudirman-Thamrin, Central Jakarta. The buildings were Sinar Mas, Sampoerna, Plaza Sentral, Davinci, and Wisma Kosgoro.
Sandiaga said KPK suggested the issuance of the warning as the buildings had not yet consulted with the Jakarta government regarding their violation.
According to Benny, the illegal use of groundwater was deemed a crime, and that the misuse could widely affect the city’s sovereignty. “So it does make sense to involve KPK,” he added.

Benny further explained the first letter was a warning-cum-recommendation, while in the second warning letter the city administration would suspend the permit of groundwater and wastewater installation. If the building owner failed to heed the recommendation, the city officials would revoke all permits.
The Jakarta administration has conducted an audit to buildings in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. As many as 69 building managements have consulted with city officials: 41 of them has submitted their plans, 24 is currently preparing their plans, and 4 others have met the standards.
Aside from auditing buildings in Jakarta, the city administration also recently inspected groundwater utilization and wells infiltration at 80 buildings in the Pulogadung industrial area, East Jakarta.
