TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After blocking more than 70 million fake accounts in May and June, Twitter is still continuing its efforts to eradicate fake accounts. Reported by CNET, July 6, they block a million fake accounts per day for this month.
On its official blog page, Twitter stated that they have removed 214 percent more accounts for violating spam policies. They also said the average number of spam reports received has decreased from about 25,000 a day in March to about 17,000 a day in May.
“We have prevented more than 50,000 sign-ups of spam per day,” Twitter said as quoted by CNET.
Meanwhile, Tech Radar, July 7, wrote that this eradication focused on automated accounts and spam, run by software or designed to lead other users to links that can make money for the owner of the spam accounts.
On the other hand, the blocking is considered to affect the number of monthly active Twitter users.
Twitter said that about the 5 percent of the accounts is spam accounts, and up to 9 percent of accounts are bots. The third-party analysts considered that the numbers could be much higher. It means that the actions taken now will actually affect the decline in the number of social network users.
