TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The dead victims of KM Lestari Maju sinking boat in Selayar Islands waters, South Sulawesi reached 34 people, as data per 11:00 local times today.
“There are 155 survivors and 34 others are found dead, so the total number is 189 passenger,” said Selayar Resort Police Adj. Sr. Comr. Syamsu Ridwan today.
He mentioned as many as 36 victims were hospitalized in KH Hayyung hospital, 56 people are going under treatment at Batangmata Public Health Center, and 63 others at Parangia Public Health Center.

The number was different than of passenger manifest of KM Lestari Maju. According to the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Makassar chapter spokesperson Hamsidar, the passenger manifest amounted to 164 people and 144 of which were registered while the rest 20 people were not identified yet.
During today’s search, according to Hamsidar, the team found dead two adults and two girls.
KM Lestari Maju boat departed from Bira Port, Bulukumba heading to Pamatata Port at 10:00 local times on July 3. At around 13:30, the boat was said to leak at Pa’baddilan waters, Bongaiya Village, Bontomatene District, Selayar Island. The waters started to enter the boat.
Based on the circular video, passengers of the boat were panic. Lots of them jumped into the waters without life jacket as the boat started to sink.
