TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the United Development Party (PPP) Chairman Muhammad Romahurmuziy, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo plans to announce his official candidacy for the 2019 Presidential Election on July 15.
Romahurmuziy - better known as Romy - claims that the date of the announcement will also reveal Jokowi’s vice presidential candidate considering that the deadline is just one month away.
“Pak Jokowi will provide a statement on July 15 in regards of his presidential candidacy,” said Romy at the Nahdalatul Ulama headquarters on Tuesday, July 3.
Despite the need for further discussions regarding Jokowi’s candidacy, Romy added that currently there are already 10 individuals that will potentially be Jokowi’s running-mate. He also informed that Jokowi plans to meet with political party leaders that are currently backing him.
However, Romy aptly refused to reveal the identities of the people that made it into Jokowi’s future running-mate shortlist. He only revealed that the people were chosen from various backgrounds.
“The backgrounds are from a former military member, politician, public figure, and all the way to a scholar,” said Romy.
Romy said that the list of names are the people that have had experience in working together with Jokowi, however, he personally hopes that Jokowi will eventually name a vice president from the PPP.
