TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo called Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan the governor of Indonesia in an Indonesian Provincial Government Association (APPSI) event in Jakarta on Monday, July 2, 2018.
“Pak Anies has the heaviest task. Not only is he the governor of Jakarta, but also the governor of Indonesia,” Tjahjo said in his opening speech.
Tjahjo said this was because residents in Jakarta hailed from all regions in the country. He added that all Indonesians had the right to seek jobs in the capital. “They have the right to find jobs, to stay, as long as they abide by the rules,” he said.

Tjahjo said Anies as the capital’s governor did not bar residents from other regions to reside in the city. Tjahjo mentioned this as he referred to a former Jakarta governor who called on Jakartans not to bring their families into the capital when they returned to Jakarta from their Eid exodus.
Tjahjo Kumolo said that was why Anies deserved appreciation. “We appreciate Pak Anies that Jakarta belongs to all Indonesians. Everybody is welcome to come as long as they arrange for their Jakarta ID (KTP) cards.”
