TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fredrich Yunadi looked cheerful while presented his 2,300-page defense plea to the court room on Friday, June 22. At the trial, he would defend himself and reject every charges and witness testimony that were mostly against him in the previous trial.
“At first, I wrote [my plea] by hand and then it was typed. I stayed up all through the night in the past two weeks,” said Fredrich once he arrived at the Corruption Court (Tipikor).
He and his team arrived at 10 am while dragging three large suitcases containing bundles of Fredrich’s 2,300-page defense plea that was 60 cm thick. It was then handed evenly to the members of the public prosecutor and the Judge.
Before it was handed over, the complete bundle was stacked on top of each other in the middle of the courtroom. The stack of Fredrich’s defense plea copies was almost more than one-meter-high.
Fredrich Yunadi is a suspect for obstructing the investigation process of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against former House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Setya Novanto.
Fredrich, together with Medika Permata Hijau Hospital doctor Bimanesh Sutarjo were the architects behind Setya Novanto’s fake injuries in November 16, 2017, when Fredrich was Setya’s attorney.
Throughout the trial, Fredrich Yunadi maintained that he has the right to read out all of his defense plea right out of the 2,300 pages but was asked not to by the panel of judges. Following a stringent negotiation between Fredrich and the panel of judges and the limited time available, Fredrich agreed to read the essential parts of his plea.
