TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft, received a package containing death threat and white powder at her house amidst the increasing tension between US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in relation to a possible trade war.
The package was intended for the US Embassy in Ottawa. However, the package was somehow wrongly delivered to Craft’s house. The package contains a note filled with curses threatening US President Donald Trump and his family, and Craft.
The US Secret Service, Ottawa Police, and the US Embassy refused to discuss the issue openly and choose not to respond to request for clarification. The Police is currently investigating the issue and testing whether the powder is dangerous or not.
Trudeau and other Canadian state official offered their support to Craft and her family.
"The threat is totally unacceptable and Craft has been conducting an important and tough job, and Canada honors her service," said Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland as quoted by the Independent on June 17, 2018.
The threat came just after Trump and Trudeau attended the G7 Summit in Quebec, where Trump said Canada was dishonest and weak.
Trudeau said that the new tariff announced by Trump was unacceptable. Trump applied tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum under considerations of national security.
