Police to Take Firm Action Against Troublemakers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Jakarta Metro Police Insp. Gen. Idham Azis, said that the police will try their best to prevent mass fights during Eid Al-Fitr night. Idham said that the police will apprehend anyone attempting to cause a commotion.

"No potential fights. If there are [perpetrators], we will arrest them," Idham said on Thursday, June 14, 2018.

The Jakarta Police will deploy two-thirds of its total personnel to secure the Eid's eve. "We will deploy our personnel," said Idham.

Idham added that the police have collected data on areas where fights might potentially break out. The data was gathered from the State Intelligence Agency’s data on organizations planning to conduct ‘takbiran’ in different locations.

Idham however, refused to disclose the conflict-prone areas. Nevertheless, he said that the police have taken necessary precautions to maintain order.
