TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The lengthy holiday in the wake of this year’s Eid al-Fitr has commenced for most Indonesians, a majority of people will most certainly use it to travel back to their hometown in the annual homecoming tradition locally known as ‘mudik.’

However, for those of you who have yet decided what to do with the days-worth of holidays, worry not, here are several activities that can keep you busy and hopefully inspire you to make your holiday more productive.

1. Invest in a new hobby

Trying something new to spark a little bit of fun in life does not necessarily mean that you must travel far from home. There are many other activities that can fill your holidays and might be your future favorite activity such as taking creative courses in the field of linguistics, participate in public workshops, or enter exercise classes.

2. Watch live music performances

It’s safe to say that music events are always held whatever time it is in the month, either the more intimate small scale live performances in cafes or large events. Just search for it online or from word of mouth, set your schedule, and enjoy your time.

3. Home decorating

Being in a holiday means that you will have all the time you need to conduct something, take a quick peek around your house again, it may be time for you to decorate. Start simple with repositioning your dining table or coffee table, or go the distance and add new ornaments or furniture to create a new fresh atmosphere.

4. Movie marathon time

What is more satisfying than to spend your time watching movies? Make a list of the movies or TV series you want to watch, or you could definitely re-watch the entire season of Friends again and take a trip on the nostalgia train. Remember, you may not have time to do this once work routine sneaks in your life again.

5. Discover your inner chef!

You can start by setting themes like cooking Sundanese foods today and take a risk to attempt cooking Japanese cuisines tomorrow! However, if that is not your forte, you can always try to sharpen your baking skills that – if successful – can be served during Eid al-Fitr family events.
