TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Administration has requested Jakarta Social Service to cope with seasonal beggars in the city during Eid Day momentum.
Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno urged Jakarta residents to pay zakat, infaq, and alms (ZIS) to the official of ZIS management such as Zakat, Infaq, and Shadaqah Agency (BAZIS). It is because BAZIS will channel the collected funds to people who really need it.
“I have coordinated with the Social Service as well so that they [People with Social Welfare Problems/PMKS] will be nurtured and they come seasonally because they take advantage from a sense of caring from the community to share,” Sandiaga said on Monday, June 11.
He added that in dealing with this seasonal PMKS issue, the Social Service will be assisted by the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), from districts until the subdistricts.
“Sense of caring is channeled through official government agencies,” he said.
As is known, ahead of Eid Day, a number of PMKS from outside the region came to Jakarta to take advantage of the zakat momentum. However, only a few of them really need the help of funding. In fact, some of them are seasonal beggars that exist only during the moment of the national day.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Jakarta, the number of poverty in the city in September 2017 reached 3.78%. BPS noted it is fairly stagnant in the last five years.
Thus, the Jakarta Administration targets to reduce up to 1% of the poverty rate, including in overcoming beggars and seasonal homeless.
