TEMPO.CO, Semarang - President Director of state airport operator Angkasa Pura I, Faik Fahmi, targets the new terminal of Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang, able to accommodate 6.9 million passengers within 2 years. If it is achieved, the airport will become the main attraction and can offer new routes of international flights.

"It’s interesting because it meets international standards; make it more confident for sale,” said Faik after the inauguration of the airport's new terminal, Semarang, Thursday, June 7.

“The demand was already high, but it was lack of capacity (in the old terminal),” he said.

Faik added, in peak season like Eid al-Fitr, the passenger capacity increased to 8 percent. In 2017 with the old terminal condition, the capacity during Eid holidays reached 16,700 passengers per day.

In 2018 with a new terminal, the increase is calculated to 18,000 passengers per day. Meanwhile, the new terminal capacity is expected to accommodate 20,000 passengers per day during peak season.

"The old terminal accommodates 4.4 million (passengers) per year, with 12,000 passengers per day. The airport is actually already 99 percent, but the parking lot is still under construction, " he said.

During this time, Faik went on, the international flights attract foreign tourists who make flights from Singapore and Malaysia. Ahmad Yani Airport's new terminal will also increase its human resources, from 150 to around 200 employees.
