TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs, Luhut Pandjaitan, hinted that Chevron Pacific Indonesia may be able to return as manager of the Rokan Block. Chevron Pacific Indonesia's contract at the oil well in Riau will expire in 2021.
"We'll see. If they negotiate well [for the contract extension], why not give it to them?" Luhut said yesterday afternoon in Jakarta, June 6.
Luhut met with Chevron's management at his office on Wednesday. According to Luhut, Chevron is currently finalizing negotiations for their contract extension with the Special Task Force Unit for Upstream Oil and Gas Operations (SKK Migas).
"It looks pretty good, and they can push their costs down by 50 percent for the IDD (Indonesia Deepwater Development project) thanks to their and the Indoensian team's sophistication".
Luhut said that Chevron has a technology that can create a reserve of 1 billion barrels, and the company assesses the location as a good area with sweet crude potentials.
On June 14, 2017, the government evaluated the management of the Rokan Block as Chevron Pacific Indonesia's contract will expire in 2021. There has been no certainty on whether the government will take over the block's management.
