Suhoor on the Road Ends up in Brawls

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police received four reports of street brawls during suhoor on the road events on Sunday, June 3, 2018. The incidents occurred in South and Central Jakarta.

South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Indra Jafar said the first report came at 01:42 that a brawl broke out in front of Sahid University on Jl. Soepomo. The police managed to disperse the crowd and arrested four people for weapon possession.

At around 03:00 a.m., a similar incident occurred near the Transjakarta bus stop on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta. The police nabbed two people. “They used a bladed weapon of celurit (traditional sickle),” said Central Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Roma Hutajulu.

At the same time, a report sent to the police on yet another street brawl before FX Senayan shopping mall on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman at 03:14 and another near Dukuh Atas station at 04:10. 

Jakarta Police public relations head Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said the police would disband suhoor on the road events should it prove to violate the criminal law. “We will take action and dismiss them,” he said on Monday, June 4.
